It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Steve Montoya, Sr. on July 23, 2026. Steve passed away at the age of 55. He was born March 25, 1971 and raised in Las Vegas, NM, where he continued to grow and reside for the rest of his life.

He touched the lives of everyone he met. He enjoyed being outdoors & fishing whenever he could. He also loved working on cars and listening to rock and roll music. Steve was skilled in welding and mechanics. He was willing to share his knowledge and expertise with anyone who needed it. He had a special place in his heart for his black lab, Mando, who he included on numerous long rides and lake days. Throughout his life, Steve honored his parents with the utmost respect. He was a man of his word. His kind spirit, quick wittedness, and steadfast determination left a lasting mark on many.

He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Montoya, and the love of his life, Celina “Nene” Baca.

Steve is survived by his son, Steve Daniel Montoya (Rosie), his mother Rose Marie Montoya, maternal aunts: Lorraine Sena, Teresa Mora (Alvin), Connie Archuleta. His uncle Faustin Archuleta (Gayleen). Paternal aunt Sallie Baker (Bo), uncle George Archuleta (Cecelia) and numerous cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 9 AM at our Lady of Sorrows in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Burial of cremains will follow at the Watrous Cemetery in Watrous, New Mexico.
