It is with profound sadness and overflowing gratitude that we say farewell to Steven, a soul whose life was nothing short of extraordinary. In the face of challenges that would have broken many, Steve chose every single day to live with grace, grit, and an unshakable love for the world around him and his son, Zach.

Steve had a deep and lifelong romance with the open road. Whether restoring a classic car, or talking horsepower with anyone who would listen, cars were more than a passion – they were a language of joy.

Just as meaningful was Steve’s love of the natural world. From quiet mornings in the woods to the sound of wind through open fields, nature was where Steve found peace and perspective.

When life dealt Steve the challenge of paralysis, the world expected limitation. What they got instead was a masterclass in courage. Steven refused to be defined by what could not be done, and instead redefined what was possible. With fierce independence and quiet determination, Steve took on the most important role of all – Rasing Zachary, a son full of light, love and endless spirit mirroring his father’s love of life.

As a single parent, Steve showed up every day with patience, devotion, and a love that never wavered. The bond they shared was a testament to what true strength looks like.

Steven leaves behind a legacy not written in ease, but in endurance. In laughter around an open hood, or muddy wheelchair wheels after a long roll in the country with his son Zach, who was loved completely, beautifully and unconditionally.

To know Steve was to know what bravery really means. Steven is survived by Elliot Zachary Johnson (Zach), and all those whose lives were forever changed by the privilege of having Steve’s friendship.

Rest easy, Steve. You earned it!

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 2:00-4:00pm at Rogers Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 2:00pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM. Serving as pallbearers will be Ted Esquivel, Richard Valencia ,Jessie Vigil, Juan Baca ,Loren Burch, and Gabriel Martinez.
