Obituary

We honor and celebrate the life of Teresita R. Chavez, our beloved matriarch and the heart of our family, who peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 104, surrounded by love and welcomed into God's eternal peace.

Teresita was born on October 15, 1921, in Corazón, New Mexico, to the late Patricia Saiz and Alfredo Roybal. She was raised in El Choro, New Mexico, where her family lived a humble life rooted in faith, hard work, and self-sufficiency. These early years shaped the strength, resilience, and grace that defined her life and, as her family lovingly believes, contributed to her remarkable longevity.

On December 25, 1941, Teresita married the love of her life, Max P. Chavez, in Trujillo, New Mexico. Their marriage began during a time of great sacrifice when, only six months later, Max was drafted into World War II. During his three-year absence, Teresita faithfully raised their firstborn son, Max III, while awaiting her husband's safe return. Together, they were later blessed with their cherished son Alfredo "Fred", who remained the joy of her heart. Their family continued to grow with the birth of Gloria and John, followed by baby Joseph, who entered eternal rest at just one year of age. In the late 1950s, Teresita and Max relocated their family to Las Vegas, New Mexico, where they welcomed Sandra and Bill, and where the foundation of a lasting family legacy was firmly established.

A devout Catholic, Teresita lived a life rooted in faith, which was the true cornerstone of who she was. She lived her faith through quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and unconditional love, she embodied her beliefs each day. Her life was a living example to her family – teaching them to trust in God, to loving deeply and generously, to standing strong in times of adversity, and cherishing one another always.

Teresita was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 73 years, Max P. Chavez; her parents, Patricia Saiz and Alfredo Roybal; her brothers Arturo, Herman, Frank, and Isias; her sisters Maria, Amelia, and Marcelina; her son-in-law Joey Crespin; and her great-grandchildren Chance and Marina Chavez.

She is survived by her sister Isabel Gomez; her niece Barbara White and family; her children Max Chavez lll (Veronica), Gloria Danielson (Keith), Alfredo "Fred" Chavez, John Chavez (Paula), Sandra Crespin- Valdez (Manuel), and Bill Chavez (Tanya); and her daughter-in-law Kelly Chavez.
