Teresita “Bercy” Garcia Espinoza, age 94, peacefully left this world on August 24, 2026, and was welcomed into heaven, where we imagine she is now resting in a bed of daisies. Bercy was truly a gem—a Mora gem, to be exact. She dedicated her life to her family, raising six children and instilling in them a deep love for God, family, and the Catholic faith. Her faith was at the center of her life and remained a source of strength and comfort throughout her many years.
Bercy was a homemaker for most of her life, but her service to her church and community was just as important to her. She dedicated many years to St. Gertrude Parish in Mora, New Mexico, where she served as a mayordoma alongside her beloved husband, Daniel Espinoza. She was a member of the Guadalupanas, Sacred Heart Society, Legion of Mary, Altar Society, Santa Maria Choir, and the Children’s Choir of the Angels. She also served as a sacristan for 16 years. During those years, she rarely missed an opportunity to attend Mass, whether during the week or on the weekend. Bercy had a deep devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and St. Anthony. Bercy had the honor and joy of working alongside many priests and seminarians throughout her years of service. She had a special way of making people feel like family, and many of the priests she met became like sons to her. One of those sons, Father Tri, was able to visit her during her final days. Family was everything to Bercy. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and took great pride in her family.
Bercy was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Perpetua Garcia; her in-laws, Abelino and Sinforosa Espinoza; her beloved husband of over 60 years, Daniel Espinoza; and her beloved son, Kevin Espinoza. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Gertrude Esquibel, Flora Romero, Ernest Garcia, Sofia Balland, Domingo Garcia, and Maria Padilla. Bercy was the youngest of her siblings and, with her passing, the last surviving member of the Garcia family.
She is survived by five of her children: Vera Olguin (Charles), Danny Espinoza (Emily), Randy Espinoza (Pauline), Gerard Espinoza (Darlene), and Timmy Espinoza (Patricia). She leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory and the lessons she taught them for generations to come.
A rosary will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Gertrude Parish in Mora, New Mexico. The funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gertrude Parish. Following the funeral Mass, a meal will be prepared and shared with family and friends. In accordance with Bercy’s wishes, she will be cremated. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date, when she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Daniel, and her son, Kevin. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gerome Espinoza, Daniel Espinoza, Carlos Olguin, Felipe Espinoza, and her dear nephew, Jerry Romero.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, NM 87701. 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
