Theresa J. Ortega 79 years, passed away at home with her family beside her after a long health battle.

She was married for 61 years to her high school sweetheart.

Born in Las Vegas, NM where she was a lifelong resident.

She graduated from West Las Vegas High School and obtained her Bachelor’s degree from NM Highlands University. She retired from Luna Community College where she was an instructor for almost 24 years.

She loved being around her family especially supporting her kids and grandkids at rodeos and roping’s all over New Mexico and in other states. Being surrounded by family and friends was her passion. She served in her local parish and choir for many years. Theresa was well known in the community for talking to everyone and offering a meal if you came to visit.

Theresa is preceded in death by: Son Gerald Ortega, Parents Antonio and Rita Romero, siblings, Gilbert Romero, Junior Romero, Ernie Romero, Leroy Romero, Luis Romero, Mary Louise Lujan, and Jeannie Kramer.

She is survived by Candido Ortega, LeighAnn Maniaci, Laurie and Don Griffo, Antonio and Brandice Ortega. Grand Children - Derek and Abby Camacho, Taylor Hays. Great Grandchildren- Faith and Ashlynn Ortega, Cash and Coen Camacho. Siblings – Irene Roberts, Eliza and Mike English, Geralyn and Michael Montoya, and Chemay Romero.

Rosary will be recited on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 9:00am both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at Santo Nino Cemetery in Gallinas, NM with the following serving as pallbearers Antonio Ortega, Don Griffo, Louie Rael, Johnn Armijo, Chris Armino and Robert Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Hays, Faith Ortega and Ashlynn Ortega.
