Tillie
Trujillo
July 13, 1926 – November 10, 2022
On November 10, 2022, Tillie Trujillo received a call that she couldn't refuse. She got the call, pursed her lips into a funny face as she loved to do, and listened. It was our Lord inviting her to be with her beloved husband, Matias, in Heaven, who preceded her in death. As her work on earth was done, she accepted the call, after making sure that her lipstick and rouge were perfect, because she surely could not leave this earth not looking her best.
Tillie was beloved by many impacting, generations of Mora students in her 34 years as a teacher. She was an excellent teacher, and a less excellent cook. She met her second Husband, Sipriano Trujillo, who had those kitchen skills she lacked. We know that all people die, but Tillie LIVED in her 96 years as the world transformed before her eyes. She traveled, often with too many coats and shoes. She loved to dance and left holes in the rug at the Senior Center. She never met a dance floor that was not calling her name. She loved chocolate and always had a little bowl near her. Every night of the week, when there was not a dance, you would find her knitting in front of the fire. Tillie was jubilant in her life and loved sharing jokes. She loved to play the piano, but only played vibrant Saloon jazz. She also loved to craft. She could turn a greeting card into a treasure. Her home in Mora was just as vibrant, changing colors every few years.
Tillie's greatest legacy on this Earth was left in her children. Steve Martinez and wife Teresa, Michael Martinez and wife Josephine, Matt Martinez and Lily Archuleta and Anita Roybal and husband Eloy. Tillie had 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She had an abundance of love in her life and shared an abundance of love. She is survived by her two sisters, Stella Sacoman and Simonita Romero. She was preceded in death by Sipriano Trujillo and Matias Martinez. Her parents were Emilio Sanchez and Antonia Romero.
She will be remembered fondly by her family and the Community of Mora. Her services will be held at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. with Father Paul Grala S.O.L.T as celebrant.with a burial to follow at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Her pallbearers will be her sons Michael Martinez, Matias Martinez and Steve Martinez, along with John Sotres, Nathaniel Roybal and Antonia Roybal-Mack. In lieu of flowers, in all sincerity, Tillie would have wanted you to rescue a cat.
Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary Las Vegas, NM 87701 (505) 425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
