Obituary

On Monday evening, September 2, 2024, the Lord called our beloved Veronica "Mona" Jaramillo home. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time of her passing. Mona and her twin brother, Orlando, were born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on March 16, 1956.

Mona is preceded in death by her parents, Domingo and Lilly Vigil; her grandson, James Quintana; her brothers in law, Leroy Sanchez and Gene Lujan and her nephews Mario C. Sanchez and Ronald Romero.

Our beloved fiancé, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend leaves behind her fiancé, Robert Baca; two children, Carol Salazar and husband Leroy of Albuquerque, her son Victor and wife Brenda of Chimayo. Two stepdaughters, Roberta and Rachel Baca of Las Vegas. Grandchildren Heather Velarde (Peter) Josiah Jaramillo, and Jasmine Aldaz. Great grandchildren, Aliyah Chavez, Martin Martinez, Kenneth Vaughn, Evelyn Maestas, and Ezkiel Vaughn.

Also surviving her are her sisters and brothers: Marcella Hernandez, Las Vegas; Elsie Sanchez, Albuquerque; Antonia Lujan, San Antonio, Texas; Benjie Vigil (Yvonne) Ilfield, NM; Orlando Vigil, Perryton, Texas; Carl Vigil (Yolanda) Las Vegas, and Theresa Archuleta (Tom) Las Vegas, special nephews who she helped care for Aaron, Nick and Nathan Archuleta. She leaves behind several nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mona was a housekeeper, house sitter, and babysitter for over 40 years for many families in Las Vegas. She was a humble and kind person to everyone. She took much pride in her tasks at hand until she retired due to short-term illness. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and going to the casino. She made it a point to make a special gift for each of her loved ones by embroidering towels and crocheting them a blanket with their favorite color. Many a time, she donated her embroidery work or crochet blankets as a fund-raiser to help someone in need. She was an amazing seamstress and pressed clothes and suits for many. Mona had an eagle eye for detail and she returned the clothes she cared for perfectly fixed and pressed. Just recently, she pressed altar linens for Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

Mona enjoyed attending gigs when Viento was playing—she was their number one fan! She was quick-witted and enjoyed being surrounded by people. Her sense of humor was infectious and although very ill, she was still making everyone laugh to the end. Listening to New Mexico Spanish music was her pastime.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to her medical staff from Anvoi Hospice to include Corrine, Marissa, Yvonne, Bridgette and Dr. Jesus Tafoya. They were very professional and cared for Mona until the very end, making her feel loved and cared for.

Celebration of life for Mona will include a rosary on Thursday, September 12, 2024, promptly at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Most Holy Mass, both services are at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Rob Yaksich presiding. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at Mt Calvary Cemetery where she will be buried with her father. The reception will take place at the Parish Hall on the Plaza.

If anyone would like to make a monetary donation in honor of Mona, please make it to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church charities.
