It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Veronica L. Mares (Betty), On January 5, 2025.

She was born on December 17, 1950 in Las Vegas New Mexico to Eloy Mares Sr. and Rosie Mares. She was a resident of Las Vegas NM; however, she was raised in Buena Vista NM at the family home. She never married, nor had children. She helped care for her parents and their home in Las Vegas until their passing.

Preceding her in death are her parents Eloy Mares Sr. and Rosie Mares. Brothers Lorenzo Mares, Agustine Mares, Eloy Mares Jr., and other extended family members.

She is survived by her siblings Martha Vigil (Sam Vigil), Joe Mares (Martha Mares), Mary Frances Mares (Felipe), Gloria Sandoval, and Juan Fermin Mares. Sister-in-laws Susan Mares and Doris Mares. Special nieces: Berlinda Lucero, Shantae Mares (Dwight Padilla), Samantha Mares (Brandon Gonzales), and Brandy Mares (Lucio Garcia Jr.). Nephew Luciano Lucero. Numerous other Nephews and Nieces.

She had one God daughter, Judy Padilla.

Veronica enjoyed spending time with her family. Going for drives or to family gatherings, making tortillas or peeling Chile for Chile season. She liked to watch TV. Her favorite movies were Comedy and she loved her "Little House on the Prairie". She loved to talk on her phone to all of her siblings, and she also liked to go to the Casino. Veronica was the strongest lady we knew, with a heart of gold, and she will be deeply missed.

Rosary service will be recited on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 6:00pm. Funeral mass will be conducted on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 9:30am with Father Rob Yaksich both services will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery with the following serving as Pallbearers: Adrian Mares, Jake Mares, Nichole Sandoval, Agustine Mares Jr, Joseph Mares, and Luciano Lucero. Honorary Pallbearers are: Santos Padilla, Santana Padilla, Santino Padilla, Esperanza Sena, Madison Gonzales, and Lucio Garcia III.
