Viola Maria
Vigil Williams
May 8, 1934 – December 9, 2023
Viola Maria Vigil Williams passed away peacefully at age 89 at her son, John N. Romero's home in Turquillo, New Mexico on Saturday, December 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born to the late Amarante Vigil and Fedelina Aragon Vigil on May 8, 1934 from Las Aguitas, Viola was the last of 9 siblings. She had five sisters: Sally, Josie, Amalia, Emily, Barbara along with three brothers, Gilbert, Filimon, and Leroy.
Viola worked all her life, retiring at the age of 74. After marrying young, having only two sons, Viola divorced and went on with her life meeting James Williams while working in Colorado. Viola married James Williams from Risco, Missouri in 1973. When James retired from the Army, they moved to Dexter, Missouri where they bought a 25-acre farm where he raised pigs, soybeans, and corn. They also bought a small bar and grill. Eventually James died from complications from agent orange and was buried in Missouri. Viola continued to live there for 20 years. She moved back to New Mexico and met Encarnacion Mascarenas at a senior citizen dance. They were both widowed and so began another journey for Viola. They both loved dancing, getting together with friends, eating out, and traveling to Colorado to visit with relatives. Then Sean as he was known to his friends became ill. Kimberly Bossio helped Viola until Seans passing. Viola came back to Turquillo to live with her son John and daughter-in-law Mercy. She traveled back and forth to Albuquerque and Bernalillo visiting a sister-in-law, nieces' grandchildren, attending birthday parties, weddings, and baptisms. Viola loved going to the senior center in Bernalillo and to church with her family.
Viola is survived by her two sons, John N. Romero (Mercy) and Jerry V. Romero (Charmaine),
