Gilbert E. Perea,, age 74, a lifetime resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at his residence.
He was born on March 16, 1937 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Jose Dolores Perea and Estella Patron-Perea.
He was united in marriage on August 10, 1971 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Guida Scott. He worked for the New Mexico Transportation Department for 28 years and retired as a Shop Foreman. He served forty three years in the United States Army National Guard receiving, Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserved Medal, Army Reserved Components Over Seas Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, 4th Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star. Gilbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and friend. Gilbert was also known to be the biggest jokester , but also he was a very giving man. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose Dolores and Estella Perea; twin brother: Joseph Eusabio Perea; sister: Mary Abeyta; step-mother: Julia Perea; and aunt: Guadalupita Ulibarri.
He is survived by his loving wife: Guida A. Perea of the family home. Son: Victor A. Perea (Maryann) of Las Vegas, NM; daughters: Sandra Casaus of Albuquerque, NM; Susan Lopez (Joe) of Watrous, NM; Paulina Perea of Taos, NM; Pamela Campos (Julio) of Albuquerque, NM; Patricia Rohloff of Las Vegas, Nevada; Carol Ortega of Albuquerque, NM; Gill Martinez (Cayetano) of Las Vegas, NM; son: Gilbert E. Perea Jr., of Phoenix, AZ: special grandchildren whom lived with Gilbert: Michael Martinez and Amanda Perea; twenty: grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters: Connie Lopez, Mickey Fulgenzi, and Barbara Perea-Casey (Frank) all of Las Vegas, NM; numerous: brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Public viewing will be held Wednesday all day at Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas, NM.
Rosary services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 9:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as Celebrant. Cremation is to follow after mass.
Interment will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM with the following serving as casket bearers: Michael Martinez, Danny Perea, Cayetano Martinez, Julio Campos III, Julio Campos, and Marc Campos.
