Max J. Gutierrez, age 70, a lifetime resident of Mora, New Mexico passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011 at his residence .
He was born on May 25, 1941 in Trujillo, New Mexico to Juan Gutierrez and Celina Martinez Gutierrez.
He loved the Mora Rangers and Rangerettes. Max did not miss a single basketball game since 1971. A Catholic and member of the St. Gertrude Church in Mora, New Mexico .
He was preceded in death by his mother: Celina Martinez; brothers: Arcenio Gutierrez, Elias Martinez; sister: Lorraine Gutierrez; nephews: Nelson Gutierrez, Alvin Romo, and Dennis Romo; mother and father in-law: Lorenzo and Manuelita Romero.
He is survived by his loving wife: Carlota Gutierrez of the family home in Mora, NM; daughter: Paula Smith and husband Mike of Del Rio, Texas; son: Greg Gutierrez and wife Diane of Albuquerque, NM; sisters: Evelyn Romo of Las Vegas, NM; Ruby Aragon of Ledoux, NM; Doris Leyba and husband Joe of Mora, NM; brother: Paul Martinez of Mora, NM; sister: Rolanda Gutierrez of Cleveland, NM; nephew: James Gutierrez of Bend, Oregon ; aunt: Emilia Sandoval of Greeley, Colorado; sister-in-law: Olivama Gutierrez of Holman NM; brother-in-law: Eli Romero and wife Dolores of El Alto, NM; sisters-in-law: Druscilla Romero and husband Arthur of Mora, NM; and Cordelia Romero of Albuquerque, NM; brothers-in-law: Manuel Romero and wife Hortencia of Albuquerque, NM; Orlando Romero of Mora, NM;, Alex Romero and wife Theresa of Las Vegas, NM; numerous: other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the St. Gertrude Church in Mora, NM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 10:00 am at the St. Gertrude Church with Father James Sanchez as celebrant. Serving as casket bearers: Frank Aragon, Dominic Gutierrez, Isaac Leyba, Walter Romero, Michael Romero, Paul Leroy Martinez, Donny Romero and Louis Martinez. Serving as honorary bearers will be all his grandchildren, Kelly and Kyle Smith, and Dani Gutierrez. Interment will take place at a later date and Cremation will be after funeral services.
