Jose F. Maestas' Obituary
Jose F. Maestas, age 76, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Casa Real in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He was born in La Cueva, New Mexico on July 20, 1933 to the late Jose E. Maestas and Clorinda Barros-Maestas.
He was united in marriage to Bertha DeHerrera on September 12, 1964 at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, NM.
He retired from the New Mexico State Hospital, where he worked as a Nurse Tech for fifteen years.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a former member of the Mora Larks. He loved his grandchildren.
He was a lifetime Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose E. and Clorinda Barros-Maestas; wife: Bertha L. Maestas; daughter: Eileen Maestas; son: Martin Maestas; brother: Jerry Rivera; and daughter-in-law: Benita Maestas.
He is survived by his sons and daughter: Kenny Maestas (Tina), Arnold Maestas, Delfinio Maestas, and Mabel Maestas Trujillo (Lawrence) all of Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren: Kenny Jr., Danielle, Kendra, and Christopher Maestas, Germaine Garcia, Cynthia and Marisol Maestas, Robert and Emilio Wise, Nathan, Santianna and Ivan Trujillo; sisters: Mary Summerville of Albuquerque, NM; Eloisa Alcon (Bernabe) of Canoncito, NM; Della Maestas of Las Vegas, NM; Margaret Cordova of Phoenix, AZ; Carlota Maestas and friend Lorenzo of Canoncito, NM; Seferina Padilla, Virginia Tarr (Mark) and Sarah Ortiz all of Las Vegas, NM; brothers: Jose H. Maestas of Grants, NM; Damacio Maestas, Lorenzo Maestas (Christine) and Leroy Maestas all of Las Vegas, NM; numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Rosary Services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas, NM and Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 7:00 pm at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, NM.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:00 am at the St. Gertrude's Church in Mora, NM, with Father John McHugh as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santo Nino Cemetery in Buena Vista, NM with the following serving as casket bearers: Christopher Maestas, Florencio Garcia, Mario Ortegon, Arthur Mondragon, Lawrence Maestas, and Ernest Mondragon Jr. Serving as honorary bearers are all of his grandchildren.
